Wouldn't it be great to actually see what people are saying about you? Cymfony's integrated market intelligence dashboard application, Orchestra, shows communications professions the impact of both mainstream and consumer-generated media on their brands, and provides access to the detailed content behind the metrics.
Cymfony Orchestra provides simple navigation and flexible branding, and lets the data shine.
When Cymfony approached Filament Group, their Brand Dashboard application was already an incredibly powerful tool for visualizing and exploring media coverage in real-time. Based on client feedback and changes in the nature of brand-related online media — especially the emergence of blogs, usenets and other consumer-generated media — Cymfony saw an opportunity to extend Brand Dashboard's capabilities and develop a uniquely valuable new tool that merges traditional PR and media campaign coverage and consumer-generated online discussions in the same place.
Cymfony engaged Filament to help develop an interface system for a new application to extend Brand Dashboard. We reviewed client feedback provided by Cymfony, and talked to internal strategy, professional services, sales and client support people to understand the users, roles and working styles the system needed to accommodate.
Flyout action menus allow for easy access to rich functionality with minimal visual clutter.
Armed with user input, business goals, and data requirements, we proposed a simple system model that centered around three important ideas: metric views, reports, and clippings. Onto this navigation model, we layered in a robust set of interface tools to help users build custom views, create and share reports, and flexibly structure complex queries to sort though massive amounts of data.
In several iterations of collaborative design and prototyping, Cymfony and Filament explored ways to make these tools accessible without intrusiveness, and powerful without feeling complicated. We came to a system of multi-level menus that provide incredible data richness very economically. At the same time, we developed a look and feel for Orchestra that balances distinctiveness and simplicity, and always lets the information shine.
Filament delivered detailed specifications along with coded templates and scripts.
Cymfony tested the interface with users through a simple HTML prototype usability test, and followed that with a comprehensive full beta system usability phase with a select group of key clients.
To support Cymfony's development team, Filament Group developed detailed style guide documentation as well as standards-compliant coded templates and stylesheets to provide compatibility on a wide range of browsers; and clean, modular scripts produced for menus, list grids, spindowns and other advanced UI elements. System design, visuals and branding, and interaction came together in a simple, flexible, intuitive and powerful tool.
